Playing Music With Donny

About 15 years ago I was hired to play at a New Year's Dance at the Norlite Hall in The Pas, MB. I practiced with the drummer and a guitar player for three hours one evening. The music was terrible. The second night Donny came to the practice with his bass guitar. The music suddenly came "alive". It was a breeze playing with him. He saved the day.

Donny and I played about 20 gigs as a 2-man show. We never practiced ahead of time. He said, "We are stars! Why should we practice?" He came with his guitar and electronic drum machine. I played fiddle. Some of our outdoor concerts in Flin Flon were packed with about 600 people. They loved his songs. He sang beautifully every time with tremendous feeling. His strumming and drum beat were right on and gave a steady pulse for his songs as well as for my fiddling tunes.

Donny's singing and guitar playing were always highly professional. He was a gifted entertainer and like so many of the greatest musicians has left this world too soon.

I feel honored to have shared the stage with such a wonderful entertainer. My condolences to Donna and family of your loss.  Sincerely, Robert Isfeld
