Obituary for Marguerite Gonnet (Halina)

Mrs. Marguerite “Margaret” Gonnet of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Mr. Raymond Gonnet, passed away on Friday, October 18th, 2013 at the age of 85 years. Margaret leaves to cherish her memory 2 children, Katherine Anne (Kevin Hawthorne) and Marie Wynne (David Morter); 5 amazing grandchildren, Shannon Margaret and Liam Kevin; Sarah Wynne, Meaghan Rae and Emma Anne; 1 brother, Edward; 2 sisters, Eva and Dianne; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Raymond in 1997. Margaret was born on January 20th, 1928 at Lake Eliza to William and Anne Halina and was raised in Myrnum, Alberta. She graduated as a registered nurse from Edmonton General Hospital 1950 and had a long dedicated and proud career in nursing and was well respected. It was her passion, and she provided dignity and comfort to all that she cared for. After graduating from nursing, Margaret was ahead of her time, travelling with a girlfriend for months thru Europe. Margaret married Raymond Gonnet on April 20th, 1963 at St. Timothy’s in Edmonton and moved to Ft. St. John. They then moved to Medicine Hat in 1973 where she continued practicing nursing and retired from working in the ICU at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital in 1993. Margret’s grandchildren were the loves of her life. She played barbies, coloured, baked cookies, kicked the soccer ball and let them win at Snakes and Ladders. They gave her purpose and meaning and no other grandmother will be missed or loved more than Margaret. Special thanks to the staff at the Carmel Hospice for all they did, in particular to nurse Cathy for her unbelievable warmth.
