Kathleen Brittain passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 28th, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Southridge Continuing Care Centre in Medicine Hat, Alberta at the age of 86 years. Kathleen was predeceased by her husband, Richard “Dick” Brittain; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ian (Ethel) Walker and Revie (Doreen) Walker. Kathleen leaves to cherish her memory one son, David (Grace) Brittain of Medicine Hat; one daughter, Susan (Gunnar) Kekerainen of South Carolina; two grandchildren, Richard Brittain and Andi (Eric) Thomson; one brother, Norman (Ruth) Walker of Edmonton; as well as several nieces and nephews. Kathleen was born on July 23rd, 1927 in Blairmore, Alberta. In 1950, she graduated from Calgary General Hospital as a Registered Nurse. Kathleen spent many years providing exemplary nursing care first with The Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg for five years, and then with The Charles Camsel Hospital in Edmonton until her retirement. She married Richard and they had a very close relationship until his passing twenty-eight years ago. They enjoyed gardening, spending time at the cottage and travelling the world together. Kathleen greatly enjoyed the outdoors and had a special love for reading and the theatre. She was an enthusiastic bridge player. Kathleen was a long time member of the APEGGA Women’s Association for almost 30 years and a member of the Calgary General Hospital Alumnae. She will be remembered as an extraordinary wife, mother, nurse, aunt and grandmother. Kathleen will long be remembered and greatly missed by all who knew her. A celebration come and go reception of Kathleen's life will be held at the Coast Plaza Hotel, Penthouse Reception Room, 10155 – 105th Street, Edmonton, Alberta, on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2013 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Memorial gifts in Kathleen’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 102 – 1865 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 1Z8 or to the Parkinson's Society, 102 – 5636 Burbank Crescent SE, Calgary, Alberta, T2H 1Z6.
