Mr. Edward “Alan” Patey, beloved husband of Mrs. Elizabeth Patey of Medicine Hat, passed away on Thursday, May 30th, 2013 at the age of 89 years. Alan also leaves to cherish his memory three children, Kirsten (Syd) McCurdy of Empress, Stephen (Kathy) Patey of Crossfield and Lisa Patey (John) of Calgary; twelve grandchildren, Chance and Connor McCurdy, Carter and Shelby Patey, Anthony, Stephen, Kayla, William, Cheyanne, Zachary, Sierra and Arizona Patey; one great grandchild; and two sisters, Darlene Jacobs of Calgary and Betty-Lou Pinkerton of Calgary. Alan was predeceased by his parents, Cecil Edward and Cora Marie Patey; and one brother, George Patey. Alan was born in Cranbrook, British Columbia on March 10, 1924. His family lived in various places while he was growing up during the difficult years of the Depression. Alan enlisted in the Navy in 1940 at the age of 16 years. He served on the HMS Nigeria for the duration of the war, travelling to various Asian locations and north of the Arctic Circle, becoming a Steam Engineer in the process. Alan had many different occupations during his life, but sign-painting and mechanics were his main areas of expertise. Alan had his own sign-painting business, then in 1970 went to work for the City of Calgary Sign Department, until his retirement in 1991. He married Elizabeth on November 17th, 1962 and they lived in Calgary until they moved to Medicine Hat in 2004. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2012.The Funeral Service will be held in SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Saturday, June 8th, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Keith Running officiating.
