Obituary for Dorothy Isabell Schatz (Schuetzle)

Dorothy Schatz went to be with her Lord on April 1, 2013, at the age of 87. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur on February 8, 1999 (80 years). She leaves 3 children to cherish her memory, Ruth Cherot (Don Powers), Florence (Richard) Gackle and Richard (Cheryl) Schatz. Stephen, her youngest son, passed away on February 8, 2013, (Kathy). Dorothy has 10 grandchildren, Marcel Cherot, Raymond Gackle, Arlene Cote, Jason Gackle, Sandra Martin, Ryan Schatz, Misty Bedwell, Shane Schatz, Stephanie Schatz and Jayme Duncan. She also has 16 great grandchildren whom she enjoyed laughing and playing with. Dorothy leaves 2 sisters, Alice (Edwin) Kanewischer and Ruth (Edwin Jesske). She was predeceased by Fred Schuetzle, Henry & Clara Schuetzle, Arthur & Ella Schuetzle, Norman & Inge Schuetzle, Elmer Schuetzle, Carl & Elaine Schuetzle, and Harold Schuetzle. She has numerous nieces and nephews and is the last surviving 'Schatz' from her generation as all of Arthur's brothers, sister, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law have predeceased her.
Dorothy and Arthur were married on April 11, 1943 and enjoyed 55 years of marriage. They started their married life on his parent's farm until 1957 when they moved into a new home across from Great Grandpa Schatz's homestead. Stephen Schatz carried on the farming tradition and he was the fourth generation to farm near the original homestead. Art and Dorothy moved to Medicine Hat in 1982. Dorothy was very creative and won awards for her skills with knitting and other crafts. She enjoyed her garden, flowers and sewing for a long time. Dorothy is recognized for her willingness to help others, her delicious kuchen, and her independence. She was in excellent health until 2 years ago when she had a mini-stroke from which she recovered and carried on with her life until she succumbed to congestive heart failure.
