Obituary for Matilda "Tillie" Haas (Stockburger)

Matilda "Tillie" Haas (Stockburger)
On August 20 “Matilda” Tillie Haas of Medicine Hat and in her one hundred and third year, beloved wife of the late Adam Haas, passed away peacefully with family by her side.
Born, October 16, 1912 to John and Maria Stockburger immigrants to Canada from Russia. She began life in a sod shack on the family farm in Hilda, Alberta. Tillie was the third of six children.
Tillie married Adam Haas October 19th, 1930. They raised three boys and a girl on the farm at Hilda. They retired to Medicine Hat in 1959.
Family and friends knew Tillie as a wise woman, loving and patient with children and grandchildren, an example and a teacher on the value of hard work. Always hospitable, positive in attitude, grateful of heart, and always ready to share her faith with gentleness and kindness.
She kept a beautiful and spacious garden with produce helping prepare wonderful German meals. She baked, sewed and knitted. Her knitting produced Afghans, sweaters, and quilts and aprons now family treasures.
She shared in farming chores while volunteering in the church and community. An adventurous sort she was always ready to try a new craft or activity. She loved games, especially Marbles using Grandpa Adam’s homemade board. A variety of card games were enjoyed with grandchildren and friends.
Tillie will be remembered for hard work, positive attitude, and an unconditional love for family and friends. Her children Ephraim (Alice) Haas, Richard (Audrey) Haas now living in Athabasca AB, Lorene (Reuben) Ehret and Floyd (Marion) Haas will remember her for unconditional love, integrity, and Christian faith.
Her wider family includes grandchildren: Joyce (Dave) McNaughton, Wade (deceased) (Bonnie) Haas, Dale (Karen) Haas, Lyle (Robin) Haas, Linda (Art) Russell, Wayne Haas, Debi (Kelly) Black, Alison (Frank) Churchill, Sherry (Darrell) Walker, Gene (Pam) Ehret, Kate Ehret (Rob Atkinson), Brad (Glenda) Haas, Nelson (Jenny) Haas, and Cory Haas (Diane Brown). Tillie had 24 Great Grandchildren, and 23 Great Great Grandchildren (with more expected soon) who treasured and loved their special grandmother.
She was predeceased by all her siblings and their spouses, John Jr. (Anna Stockburger Jauk), Charlie (Carrie) Stockburger, Maggie (Fred) Loose, Emma (John) Kundert, Elsie Stockburger and Grandson Wade Haas.
She will be missed by friends at Masterpiece where she spent her last two years. Her previous ten years at Chinook Village also brought many friends among both residents and staff. We as a family were double blessed to have our Matriarch Tillie leave us with a long heritage and legacy to cherish.
