Alfred David Stock, 89, of Hazlet, Saskatchewan passed away suddenly on November 22nd, 2017 at his winter home in Medicine Hat, Alberta. He hoped to leave this earth with his boots on, living life as he loved. He was in his workshop making walking sticks that afternoon when God called him home.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday Dec 9th, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hazlet Community Hall.

Alfred was born on October 23rd, 1928 at the Cabri Union Hospital the son and 4th child of Rudolph and Violet Stock. Alfred attended Happy Valley country school and then completed a welding course in Vancouver, BC. He spent a few winters logging and cutting Christmas tree near Radium BC. He and Vella Doreen Rasmussen were married at Tompkins Saskatchewan, on November 7th, 1950. They farmed, ranched and raised 5 children west of Hazlet.

He was a faithful and honest friend, a fixer and family man. A long-standing member of the park board, councilor for the municipality of Pittville, a founding member of the Tompkins auction mart, he was Legion member. He was a life long learner and avid reader. In his 80’s he joined the Medicine Hat work-carving club. Among many virtues Alfred exemplified truth, kindness, loyalty and love.

He married Norma Martha Garlough on January 11th, 2003. They enjoyed trail rides, dancing, cards and loved visiting with family and friends. Alfred’s life was enriched with a new community, new family and many adventures.

Alfred is fondly remembered by his children; Carol Stock; Dianne Hansen (Bob) children Curtis, Lisa Starkey (Scott) children Cassie, Riley; Ralph (Norma) daughter Vicki, Larry (Tracey) children Taylor, Jordan; Kevin (Tracy) children Colten (Kayla), Sidney, Hunter. Step-children: Greg Roth (Jayne) children Jordan, Greyson; Stewart Roth (Donna) children Joshua, Daniel; Dean Roth; Sonja Lonson (Brock) children Matthew, Katie.
His sister Kathleen Elkink and sister-in-law Marie Rasmussen, as well as many nieces and nephews. Alfred was predeceased by his wife Vella in 1995 at the age of 62, his parents Violet and Rudolph Stock. Sister Sylvia Atwood (Logan), brother Sam Stock (Beatrice), Sister-in-law Ramona Beierle (Allan), Brothers-in-law Egbert Elkink and Marvin Rasmussen.
