Jen's Message

I have a love story in my family. A small town girl met a small town boy working on Duff’s ditch back in the day. They fell in love, the love that runs off in the night and elopes. They really did! That powerful kind of young love moved them across the prairies to Alberta bringing my wonderful cousins into the world Dawn and John.

My mother's sister Aunty Anne and her charming husband Uncle Dave have always been my favourite love story. They Danced, they travelled and they laughed with each other from their bellies. They did things together. They even argued. "Oh, that Man!" Or "Hrumph"

Dave's golf sock tan has always been a marvel to me. Rich mahogany brown Ukrainian tan muscled calves over pale white ankles. I loved it.

He didn't get one this year.

His seventeen year winning streak had him in the penalty box this year.

I came to see my favourite couple last week. She was a little tired, he wasn't well but I got to see that love one more time. Care, compassion, consideration... Love. It isn't swinging around the dance floor love it’s beyond that, it is deep, thoroughly evident in all their actions love. I got to see that again.

My sweet Uncle Dave passed away this week, he was a lucky man to have met my beautiful Aunt. But Jeepers Annie, you were lucky to have met him too.
