Obituary for Lorraine Theresia Steinke (Schmaltz)

Lorraine Theresia Steinke (Schmaltz)
Lorraine passed away on July 7, 2017 with family at her side in Medicine Hat, Alberta. She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Philip Steinke; and her two children, Carmella (Dave) of Okotoks and Dustin (Sayler) of Medicine Hat. Lorraine was a proud and adoring grandma (Ma) to eight grandchildren – Lewis, Kensington, Reid, Jordan, Emily, Madison, Rylan, and Owen. Also left to fondly remember her are her brothers, Peter (Cindy) and Paul (Arlene); her sisters, Marlene (Jim), Micky (Kevin), Irene, and Annette (Frank); as well as countless nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Lorraine was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Theresia Schmaltz; and her sister, Carol Audette. Lorraine was born on July 9, 1950 in Prelate, Saskatchewan. On July 18, 1970, she married Phil Steinke in Prelate and they raised their two children in Medicine Hat and Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, and then returned to Medicine Hat. Family was the most important thing to Lorraine, and she proudly announced that God put her on this earth to be a ‘Ma’. She enjoyed camping, family game nights, and watching her grandchildren excel in their many activities. She also loved traveling with her husband, with their most recent trip being to Nashville and Memphis where they were able to see all the musical sites. She loved to showcase her family, family activities, and their travel in her photo albums. Lorraine demonstrated her selflessness, positive-nature and amazing strength, right until the very end. Lorraine leaves a giant hole in the lives of those left behind. The family wishes to thank the amazing Palliative Care staff in Medicine Hat and the wonderful staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Center in Calgary.
