Our Mutual Love for Leonard Cohen

Jacquie and I had many things in common and one was our love for Leonard Cohen.  I was reminded of that this evening when I saw a Juno clip of Feist playing tribute to Cohen with his song "Hey,That's No Way to Say Goodbye".

In November, just two days before my husband Pat and I left for Arzona, Jacquie and I met for lunch at Earls. We shared a lot about what was happening in both of our lives and she told me that she had been so fortunate to see Leonard live as it had been on her bucket list for a long time.  Jacquie described how, after every song, Leonard would bow to the crowd.  And more than a bow...he dropped down on one knee. She said "That is what I want to be able to do.  I want to be that agile." We laughed about our possibilities of rising to the same level of agility and elequence as Leonard.

I, sadly and selfishly, so wish we could have been together one more time to laugh and to share stories.  I wish i had returned from Arizona a few days early so that I could soak up her friendship and her wisdom.  And like this very large community of friends and admirors that she created, I miss her aready. And I expect many of us feel that we did not say 'goodbye' the way we would have liked nor the way Loenard Cohen would have wanted.  Rest in Peace my dear friend.

Warm regards to family and friends.  Kay Taylor
