Obituary for Andrew Lawrence "Andy" Bockman

Andrew Lawrence "Andy" Bockman
It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Andrew “Andy” Bockman on Monday, May 2nd, 2016 at the age of 67 years. Andy was born in Medicine Hat on June 3rd, 1948, the third son for Chester and Mary Bockman. Left to cherish his memory is his soulmate of 42 years, Marlene (Kusler). He is also survived by his brothers, Tom (Patt) from West Chicago, Len (Wendy) from Calgary, and Ray (Barb) from Medicine Hat; as well as his in-laws, Lorne and Bev Kusler from Maple Creek; many nieces and nephews; and wonderful friends and neighbours. Andy was predeceased by his parents, Chester and Mary; and his mother and father-in-law, Art and Florence Kusler. Andy grew up in Redcliff and graduated from McCoy High School. He worked at A & B Steel, Varsteel, Dom Glass, and Wittke Waste Management in purchasing and retail. He took pride in doing a perfect job keeping up to date at all times. He was fussy and never late. His most recent part-time job as a funeral attendant with Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel was most rewarding as this position fit his passionate and caring nature. Travel was exciting for Andy with some of his favourite places being Jamaica for his niece, Jeanine’s, wedding, a cruise to St. Thomas to visit his niece, Kyla, a cruise through the Panama Canal, an Alaskan Cruise, and many other locations closer to home. He was always ready for a game of golf at Elkwater, providing the weather was nice…he was a fair weather golfer. Andy enjoyed many peaceful weekends at the lake playing cards and helping out with various functions put on by the Community Association. For the last two years, he enjoyed going to the mall food court for coffee with friends. Andy was a member of the Elks Club for a number of years and worked his way up to Exalted Ruler. He enjoyed his time there and the people he worked with. He also spent time on the board of directors for the Elkwater Golf Club, and was presently a director with the Elkwater Community Association, as well as secretary-treasurer for the Medicine Hat Horseshoe Club. Andy’s faith was important to him and enjoyed going to church when it fit into his schedule. It was important to have clean vehicles. He loved his white truck and worked hard to keep all his vehicles spotless inside and out. Andy was a great helper and could reach things in high places. If there was any cleaning to be done, he was the man. Andy was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle and friend. He never hesitated to tell you he loved you and gave big hugs. We will miss him.
