Leo Peter Martz of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of the late Denise Martz, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday, August 17th, 2015 at the age of 91 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Maureen (Ron) Donald, Dennis (Wendy) Martz, both of Medicine Hat and Wendy (Brian) Burkitt of Innisfail, Alberta; six grandchildren, Jason (Tammy) Donald, Ailine Donald, Brad (Shannon) Martz, Kimberley Martz (Ger Forest), Lindsey Burkitt and Kyle Burkitt (Brittany Letkeman); eight great grandchildren, Rowan, Megan, Kayden, Jenna, Aurora, Laurie, Cruz and Alexis; five sisters, Catherine (Don) Kuefler, Josephine (Ed) Volk, Sister Caroline Martz, Maryann Martz and Geraldine (Arnold) Volk; two sisters-in-law, Marion Lodge and Jackie (Jim) Shipton; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Denise in 2007; his parents, Jacob and Mary Martz; and five brothers, Wilfred, Sylvester, Victor, Edward and Gerald. Leo worked for the Alberta Wheatpool as a grain buyer in Alliance, Beiseker, Gem and Duchess, Alberta before retiring to Medicine Hat in 1988. He enjoyed many activities such as coaching ladies fastball in Gem, woodworking, Tigers hockey, gardening, supporting his grandkids in their many sports events, spending time with family and feeding blue jays. Leo was also an active member of St. Patrick’s Roman Parish for many years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
