Obituary for Mary M. Hofer (Hofer)

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mary Hofer, 81, of the Elkwater Colony. Mary died at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital following a massive stroke. Mary was born at Wolf Creek, Alberta in 1933. She was 14 years old when her family moved to Deerfield, MT. The colony later split and she moved to North Harlem, MT with her first husband who later died (1966). She married Mike, her loving husband of 47 years, on June 16th, 1968 and moved to the Spring Creek Colony, Walsh, AB. She was a big part in starting the Elkwater Colony where she has spent most of her life being a hard worker and was always lending a hand to others. Mary and Mike also had a son at heart whom they helped raise, Glen (Amy) Elkwater. She was blessed with their son, Kaden, who was the joy in her life and the one who kept her going through all of her pain. She also leaves behind her loving sister, Annie (David) of Roundup, MT and one brother, Darius (Kathina) of Chinook, MT. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Darius and Susanna Hofer; her first husband, Darius Hofer; two sisters, Kathina Wipf and Susanna Tschetter; and one brother, Paul Hofer. Mary spent many years being a kindergarten teacher at the colony. She had a great nature and a strong faith in God. Mary needed extra care the last few years and we are all grateful for all the helping hands who showed their love by just being there for her. The way she loved others showed how much she loved her Saviour who was waiting for her with open arms where she will have no more pain. Jesus will wipe away the tears from her eyes and take her home.
