Shortly after moving to Medicine Hat, Wanda became a young mother and not long after
that, began travelling as a professional musician, vocalist, bassist, and acoustic guitarist. Wanda
also played locally with several bands. Most notable with “Fluff ‘N’ Stuff” along with her sister,
Lisa. Wanda was the FIRST female truck driver in Medicine Hat. “The Trucker Is A Lady” was the
newspaper article headline (1974), outlining her several years driving gravel truck with Art’s
Excavating. In effort to continuously improve her and her children's lives, Wanda worked summers
driving long haul 18 wheelers across North America, while attending University of
Lethbridge. She proudly obtained her Bachelor of Social Work Degree from the University of
Calgary in 1988. Wanda worked for the Provincial Government of Alberta as a Child
Protection Worker with Children's Services. Upon retirement, she resided in Warner, Alberta with her husband, Rick, who continued to work for the County of Warner and serve as the acting Fire Chief until his passing in 2019. Wanda then moved home to be with her family in Medicine Hat. Condolences may be sent through www.saamis.com or to condolences@saamis.com subject heading Wanda Carlson.
