Obituary for Virginia Cabral (Botelho)

Surrounded by the love and support of her daughters, Virginia da Conceiçao Botelho Cabral slipped quietly from this world into the arms of her Heavenly Father on June 5, 2021. Virginia was born on December 11, 1926, in Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal. Together with her young daughters, she immigrated to Canada in 1959 to be reunited with her husband who had been waiting for his family to arrive. Virginia was a quiet, humble and caring person who devoted her entire life to her husband, Orlando, and to her daughters. She was a woman of great faith and eagerly anticipated watching daily mass on television until it was no longer possible for her to do so. She was also a woman of great strength who accepted life’s challenges as the will of God. Children loved her and in turn, she had a special connection with them. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren have wonderful memories of their grandmother who loved each one unconditionally. Anyone who was fortunate to meet Virginia was touched in some way by her positivity and kindness. Cherishing her love and mourning her loss are her daughters, Maria (Silvio) Mantello, Lil (George) Rosendal, Alex (Scott) Sepke, Rose (Ron) Brittner and Elizabeth (Henry Penner) Durk; her devoted grandchildren, Jason, Lyndell, Laura, Kristina, Michael, Robert, Shonna, David, Steven, Catherine, Travess, and Athena; as well as their partners and great grandchildren. Virginia was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Orlando (2003), her only sister and a brother-in-law. Also predeceasing Virginia were her lifelong friends, Lucia and Gualberto Pimentel. Mom had many wonderful sayings which we will now revere and reminisce about. Her forever wish was for all of us to have “paz”- peace with one another. We will endeavour to fulfill this wish as we begin our lives without her. She leaves a profound void in our lives, but we rejoice that she is at peace and no longer suffering. We will forever miss and love her.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, only immediate family members will attend her funeral mass at Holy Family on Saturday, June 12, 2021. Family and friends are invited to watch the funeral mass online. Please go to Youtube.com and in the search line type in Medicine Hat Holy Family Church. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Those who may wish to donate in her memory may do so to a charity of personal choice. Condolences may be sent to condolences@saamis.com subject heading Virginia Cabral.
