Obituary for Theresa Marie Sheppard (Duguay)

THERESA SHEPPARD (NEE DUGUAY)
OCTOBER 1, 1930 – APRIL 15, 2022

“How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” -A.A. Milne

It is with sadness, but also profound gratitude, that the family of Theresa Sheppard announce her peaceful passing on Good Friday, April 15, 2022.

To Theresa, family was everything—both her proudest achievement and an endless source of happiness. She did not love in half-measure—she loved without reservation, never missing a moment to be in her family’s presence, and was always up for an adventure. Her good humour, open heart, and inclusive spirit now live on with her husband, children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

Born and raised in Quebec, when Theresa became an adult she was recruited by Trans Canada Airways and relocated to Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador, which would eventually become her principal home throughout her many adventures. It was here that she met the love of her life, Thomas, and she would not let geography nor language be any barrier for her. Theresa learned English as an adult and moved with her loving husband to Newfoundland & Labrador, Quebec, Ontario, Florida, and eventually settled in Alberta to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. Theresa defied the norms of her time and was a hard worker both within and outside of her home, working as a hospitality housekeeper, drycleaner, and in the early childhood field.

It was the simplest things that would always bring outsized joy to Theresa. Quietly observing the laughter and antics of her family, cooking a supper for her loved ones to enjoy, waking her grandkids early on Christmas Day, the sounds of country music or her favourite television game shows, or the satisfying sweetness of a Tim Horton’s French Vanilla “Cappuccino” and Boston Cream donut. There was always a reason to enjoy life if you were Theresa.

Theresa is survived, endlessly loved, and dearly missed by her devoted and adoring husband of 68 years Thomas; sister Ninnie; children Alex (Valerie) and Desiree (Phillip); grandchildren Lisa (Glen), Colleen (Brent) and Jeffery (Sheldon); and greatgrandchildren Patan (Caleb), Kendyl, Meyer and Allyna. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and cousins that she loved dearly, and for which that love was fully reciprocated. She is predeceased by her parents Alex and Aurelie; siblings Gertude, Julienne (Emile), Maurice, Adrienne, and Gustave; and special dog, Mike.

For those who knew Theresa, she will forever be in their hearts. She was the better among us, and the grief we feel today is the mere price of the boundless love that she has given to us.

A celebration of Theresa’s life will be announced at a later date, and her family warmly welcomes anyone who knew her to join in her remembrance.
