Obituary for Rose Fried

Rose was born on February 18th, 1922 at Irvine, AB and was brought up on the family farm at Hilda, AB. Rose and her family attended Hilda Baptist Church where they made many friends and she participated in the youth group and sang in the choir. In her youth, Rose made a decision to become a Christian and follow Jesus. During the 30’s the Weiss family decided to move north to Olds, AB to farm there. After Rose finished school, she attended Bible College at CTI in Edmonton. Following CTI, Rose worked at a Children’s Orphanage in the Chicago area and then spent two years working as a nanny in Rochester, N.Y. before returning to Olds. Rose’s parents then moved to Kelowna, BC where, in 1948, Rose met her future husband, Helmut Fried. They were married on October 20th, 1949, at East Olds Baptist Church. Helmut and Rose began farming in Olds and continued to farm there for 30 years. They were blessed with three children, Marvin, Bryon, and Marryl. In 1980, the Fried family farm relocated to Swan River, MB where they kept farming with their sons, but would winter back in Olds. In 1992, Helmut and Rose relocated to South County Village in Medicine Hat. Helmut passed away in 2008 and Rose moved into assisted living and then to Sunnyside Personal Care Home in 2015 until her passing on December 11th, 2021. Rose’s legacy was homemaking, a loving mother and wife who always put the needs of others first. She was a great example to her family and Rose demonstrated a strong faith in God. Rose was always hospitable, an excellent cook. While at Sunnyside, she was always concerned about those who were serving her, and deeply cared for the residents, volunteers and staff. The Lord blessed her with 59 wonderful years of marriage, three children, nine grandchildren and their spouses, and 17 great-grandchildren. Rose loved her family and upheld them in prayer by name daily. Rose was predeceased by her parents, John and Minnie Weiss; sisters, Mabel and Pearl; and brothers, Harold and Roy. She is survived by sons, Marvin (Flo) and Bryon (Linda); daughter, Marryl (Steve Dole) her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Gloria Weiss; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A special thank you to all the staff at Sunnyside Care Home for their kindness and compassion in caring for Rosey.
