Obituary for Robert Gordon Norwood

Robert Gordon Norwood was born on the 12th of December, 1929 on a cold Winter’s day in North Battleford Saskatchewan. Gordon was the oldest boy of 5 to Katherine and Samuel Norwood. Later the family moved to Vancouver where Gordon would go on to meet true friends, valued neighbours and eventually the love of his life Irene Meyer. Gordon & Irene were married on the second of January 1954. As the years went on Gordon & Irene would be blessed with 5 beautiful children of their own. Charlene, Dale, Sharon, Valerie, and Allan.

Before starting his career as a mechanic, Gordon served in the Korean War. Gordon worked as a mechanic for many years as well as a salesman and a part’s technician. Eventually Gordon’s career took him to Castlegar where the family owned and operated 2 flower shops. The later years of his career included traveling all of British Columbia selling silk plants and flowers. After 37 years of marriage Gordon’s loving wife passed away. After he retired he chose to settle down in Medicine Hat with his children, Charlene, Dale & Allan. The last seven years he resided at the Colonel Belcher Care Home in Calgary where he was blessed with the Wish of a Lifetime. Gordon’s wish was to travel to Thailand and visit his Grandson, Granddaughter in law and meet his Great- Grandchildren. Gordon met perhaps one of his truest friends at the Colonel Belcher, Albert. They spent many years together, breakfast at The Grey Eagle, shopping at the mall, and keeping each other out of trouble.

Gordon was an avid volunteer, wearing his medals with pride selling poppies each year. Gordon could also be found ringing the bells for the Salvation Army every Christmas. Gordon was known for his large stamp collection that he had been collecting since childhood, for which he had a great sense of accomplishment. Gordon was loved by every animal that crossed his path, a part of his heart was saved only for the animals that came into his life. Gordon was well known for his sense of humour; always witty and ready with a joke. Sometimes we feared the extent of his jokes.

Gordon is survived by his Sons Dale and Allan, his Daughters Sharon (Terry) and Valerie (Art), Brother Gary (Maureen). As well as his grandkids, nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. Predeceased by Wife Irene, Daughter Charlene and Granddaughter Terri.
