Patrick O’Donnell of Medicine Hat passed away on April 3, 2022, at the age of 92 years, surrounded by his family and listening to Irish music. Pat was born in Stranorlar, County Donegal, Ireland and immigrated to Canada in 1956 to make a life in the Medicine Hat area. Pat was a well-known cattle buyer and judge of livestock throughout his life and was rarely seen without a cowboy hat. He was predeceased by his partner, Betty Krassman and her son, Brian. Pat is survived by his sons, Keiron O’Donnell (Elaine Pederzolli), Barry O’Donnell (Joan Steiert), Dan (Arleen) O’Donnell and Joe O’Donnell (Barb Branson); daughter, Mata (Clyde) Pudwell; Betty’s daughters, Loretta Glass and Beverley Crawford; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Krassman; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On behalf of Pat, a special thank you to The Wellington Retirement Residence staff, and to the nurses, doctors, and support staff of the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital for the care they provided in his final days. As per Pat’s request, there will not be a formal funeral service. A private family service will be held in his honour.
