Oliver “York” Shaw passed away in Medicine Hat on October 3rd, 2023 at the age of 69 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda, of 27 years. He is also lovingly remembered by his daughter, Nichole, and her husband, Cody DeBoer; his sisters, Joan (Stan) Coren, Iona Shaw, Lynn Marquis, and Lois (Cameron) Eaton; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews, and even great great nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his fur babies, Toby (black lab), orange cat Milo, and tabby cat Baxter (all obtained from our local Alberta Pound and Rescue Centre (APARC)). He was predeceased by his father, Oliver York Shaw; mother, Jean Shaw (nee Anderson); brother-in-law, Foley Marquis; and various aunts and uncles. York was born in Calgary, AB. He went to live with his sister and family in Glaslyn, SK for his high school years. Then moving back to Calgary, he worked at various jobs including Shaw’s Building Movers (a company started by his father), driving a milk truck and doing pickups at various rural farms, working at his uncle’s golf course, and helping on his cousin’s farm, just to name a few. York then studied at Devry and received his computer networking training. His first job was in Regina, SK, where he met and married his wife, Brenda. With a job offer from Palliser Health Authority Medicine Hat, he moved his family back to Alberta. He retired at 63 years of age and started living his life doing what he loves. Camping and the great outdoors were York’s passion and after getting his dream trailer, he headed out often with his wife and dog, Toby. York was an adventurous and fun-loving person whose personality won over his family and most people he met. He will be greatly missed by all he left behind leaving us with many happy memories to share with each other and the generations to come. A celebration of York’s life will be held at Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB, on Saturday, November 4th, 2023 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Shane Hein officiating.
