Marvin Earl Stahl was born December 24, 1936 in Maple Creek, SK to Adolph and Susanna Stahl. He joined them on their farm at Richmound and from a young age he loved everything about farming. He was good in school and even skipped a grade because it was too easy for him. He could memorize easily so was always given a main part in the school Christmas concert which he hated. He hated being up in front of people. He excelled in school except art class. He always said he couldn’t draw a stick man and it was so embarrassing to get up front and show his drawing. He was ready to quit school at any time to farm but his parents wanted him to finish. He attended Grand Time school, the one room schoolhouse, a mile and a half down the road. When he finished grade 10, they closed the school, giving Marvin the perfect excuse to quit school and farm. Farming was his passion. He was too young at only 15 years old for a permit book but at his father’s insistence, and a call to the supervisor, the elevator gave him his own permit book. He rented his grandfathers land across the road and farmed with his dad for many happy years. In 1972, when his dad passed away suddenly, he took over the farm. He married Ivy Fischer October 28, 1972. Marvin was a hard worker. Always on the run. He always said, “I like working!”. His favourite saying when he didn’t like something was, “I’d rather pick rocks”. He really didn’t mind picking rocks. He had a great sense of humour and would say things with such a serious face you had to really know him to know if he was making a joke or was serious. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Ivy; daughter, Maxine and her family Jarrie Hegg, Naomi and Linnea; daughter, Roxanne and her family Jonathan Kroeker and Bailey; his sister, Thelma Schneider; and sister-in-law, Shelley (Rick) Steckmeister. Marvin loved his girls with his whole being and quickly won the hearts of his sons-in-law with his gentle nature and humour. He was a man of few words but generous with praise always wanting others to feel good. He loved his granddaughters and will be remembered for willingly taking part in any activity they wanted him to. He will be so missed. The family thanks Good Samaritan for the love and care they showed Marvin. . The Funeral Service will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 1Z5, on Saturday, April 17th, 2021 with Dr. Rev. Shane Andrus officiating. Interment will follow at SAAMIS PRAIRIE VIEW CEMETERY. Due to current Covid-19 restrictions attendance at the service is by invitation only.
