Obituary for Louis Schmidt

1937 ~ Ludwig John Schmidt (Louis) ~ 2022

It is with broken hearts that the family of Louis Schmidt announce his passing on April 1 at the age or 84. Louis leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 63 years Lovina, as well as his children and their families; Denise (Nestor) and their children Jay (Liz) and Cheyenne, Kirby (Jesse) Crozier and Hadley, Kalli and Weston and Cordell Johnson, Dale (Shari) and their children Brodie(Kerry) Gross-Schmidt and Kinley and Katelyn and Colton (Jenny) Gross-Schmidt and Zaylee. He was predeceased by his Parents Theresa (Martin) Wacher and Ward Kimmitt.
Louis was raised and lived in Bow Island his entire life. He met and married the love of his life on October 11, 1958. They raised their family and survived many hard years farming their land. Louis began working for the Bow Island Grazing Reserve and spent 25 years as the Reserve Supervisor. In 1999 they moved to a bare quarter of land he inherited from his father. They spent many long hard hours developing it into a beautiful piece of property their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren loved to come to visit and spend time. They all loved when “Papa” would give the great grandchildren rides on his horse “Shiner” or take them around the property on his 4 wheeler. Louis loved to rope and you could find him at most jack pots in the area. He and Lovina spent several different winters travelling to Arizona to enjoy the warm weather and of course do some team roping. In December of 2020 their beautiful property would become a place for a new young couple to raise their family. Louis & Lovina moved to a Condo in Bow Island where they remained until the time of his passing. Louis loved being with family and friends whom he shared many stories and jokes and retelling some of his favorite jokes that we all knew by heart. Louis will be remembered by his family as a wonderful loving husband, dad, grandfather and great grandfather. Family was what he was most proud of and treasured deeply. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Bow Island Legion Hall, 202-5th Ave. E, Bow Island, AB T0K 0G0 on April 8th, 2022 at 2:00 pm. Memorial gifts in Louis’ name may be made to Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada, 3100 – 246 Stewart Green SW, Calgary, AB T3H 3C8 or Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation, PO Box 460 STN K, Toronto, ON M4P 9Z9.
