Obituary for Katherine Bishop

Katherine (Kathy) Bishop, beloved wife of the late Wally Bishop, passed away in the Medicine Hat hospital on December 23, 2022 at the age of 73 years. She was the eldest daughter of Sadie & Marion Sewell, born March 7, 1949 in Lafleche, SK. Kathy married Wally Bishop in 1971. They were both adored and survived by their five children, Les Sewell (Pam), Charlene Wyrostok (Chris), Darren Bishop (Allison), Trevor Bishop (Vandy), and Jaime Bishop. Kathy is also survived by her six grandchildren, Baiden and Bauer Sewell, Caleb and Kieran Wyrostok, and Kane and Diesel Bishop; as well as her sister, Donnelle Morrisette (Ray). Kathy dedicated much of her life to raising her children and helping with the family farm before moving to Medicine Hat, AB in 2001. Her work ethic was second to none in all aspects of her life, whether that was demonstrated on the farm, working in Medicine Hat prior to her retirement, decorating her home and community with copious Christmas lights during the holidays, or growing the most impressive vegetable and flower gardens that all her neighbors admired. Kathy exemplified what a devoted wife entails in her 49 years of marriage, but especially when Wally became ill. She became his 24-hour caregiver never wavering in her dedication to keep him comfortable and caring for him for at home until his passing. Anyone that knew Kathy, knew how important her family was to her. Her incredible love for her six grandchildren was obvious and could often be observed as she attended their many sporting events and how eager she was to tell all those around her how proud she was of all their accomplishments. She loved her family with every ounce of her being, and nothing made her happier than when her children and grandchildren could all be together for family dinners and holidays. Kathy will always be remembered for her kind heart and gentle nature. She was genuine, loving, and always tried to help others. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Christmas was Kathy’s favorite time of year, and although those that love her are devastated by her passing, there is peace in knowing she is back with “Dad” and that they were finally able to spend Christmas together once again. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date with her family and closest friends. To honour her memory and her love for animals, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a local animal rescue shelter in the community of the person donating.
Rest in peace mom…love you!
