John “Wally” Bertrand passed away October 21, 2020 at the age of 85 years. Wally leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Sharon Sandau and her sons, Mel (Audrey) Sandau and their family, Shawn Sandau and his son, Jayden, and Trevor (Sheila) Sandau and their children; Wally’s son, Granger (Denice) Bertrand; grandchildren, Tonille (Jay) Mallette and Granden (Myra) Bertrand; great grandchildren, Korbin, Lucus and Aarilynn; sisters in law, Mary Bertrand and June Bertrand; Sharon’s sisters, Betty (Alvin) Gader, Joanne (Darcy) Bowyer, and Ruth (Merlin) Koch and their families; Sharon’s brother; Rick (Lisa) Vossler and their daughter, Jessica; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Wally was predeceased by his parents, John and Violet Bertrand; brothers, Michael Bertrand, Jackie Bertrand, Billy Bertrand, Ron Bertrand; sister in law, Rose Bertrand. Wally was 17 years old when he joined the army and he served our country for four years. He valued all his jobs over the years but especially enjoyed his years working at Good Year and the chicken business at LaPoulet Farm. Wally was very involved in his community; he was a Boy Scout Leader and was very devoted to his Church. He was a “Mr. Fix It” and enjoyed wood working “bird houses”, working with and making many things with macrame, as well as many other projects. He particularly liked to take aluminum lawn chairs and turn them into something beautiful. He was easy going, made friends with all he met, and will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him. The Funeral Service will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church 758-8th Street SE Medicine Hat, AB on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. Due to current Covid-19 restrictions, attendance at St. Peter Lutheran Church is limited to 75 people including funeral staff and clergy. Memorial gifts in Wally’s name may be made to S.P.C.A., 55 Southview Drive SW, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 8E8. Condolences may be sent through or to subject heading Wally Bertrand.
