Obituary

Jean Elise Olson of Bow Island, beloved wife of the late Theodore Olson, passed away on Thursday, May 21st, 2020 at the age of 80 years. Jean leaves to cherish her memory her children, Tamie Schile, Oscar (Carla) Olson, Sheri (Jim) Drader, Billy (Nicole) Olson, Daniel (Susan) Cambridge, and step-son, Greg Olson; grandchildren, Tiffany Schile, Megan (Kris) Wagstaff, Danielle Schile, Breton Villemaire, Craig Olson, Brandon (Mikayla) Olson, Justin Olson (Paige), Kimberly Olson, Cara Drader, Brandi Drader, Bailey Drader (Brandon), Conner Olson, Emma Olson, Johnathon Cambridge, Terry (Brenda) Cambridge, Elizabeth (Matt) Barks, Kyle Cambridge, Tyler Cambridge, Angel Cambridge, Kalifa Lampow, Leanna Lampow, Gabriele Lampow, Chad Olson, and Chris Olson; and great-grandchildren, Sienna, Logan, Lily, Oakley, Montana, Easton and Liam. Jean was predeceased by her husband, Theodore and parents, Emil Olsen and Helen Aasen. Jean was born on December 20th, 1939 in Edmonton, Alberta. She graduated from the nursing program at the University of British Columbia as a registered nurse with a BSN Degree. Following her graduation she accepted a post near Prince George, BC. This covered a large area which included logging camps. It was here that she met the man who would be the true love of her life, Theodore Olson. They were married on November 20th, 1964 and the rest is history as they would say! Jean was an avid reader and she loved learning and expanding her knowledge of all things. She often used big words that no one knew! She held many certifications beyond her nursing degree, including real estate agent, licensed financial advisor, and a Vancouver General Hospital Alumnae, just to name a few. Jean loved farm and ranch life and was fond of all animals but she especially loved horses. Family was first and foremost in her life. She relished taking road trips and would often take long detours, much to everyone’s delight. Jean was an amazing listener, confidante, counsellor and best friend to all. She was the first call for guidance, medical advice, or any advice in general. She was an awesome Mom to everyone she met and she will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her. The Funeral service will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 1Z5, on Tuesday, May 26th, 2020 with Pastor Norm Smith officiating. I am so sorry to hear of this. Your mom and I became friends almost 40 years ago. She was such a nice lady. God bless her.

It's taken me what feels like a long time to write this note to Jeanie and to her family --- I think because it still feels so unreal. We grew up together. Not side by side, but sharing in a lot of family gatherings, explorings by just the two of us, and with my brother, Dwane, doing things that cousins do. Jeanie taught me to ride a horse on our grandparent's farm in Alberta ---- including making me get back on when I was very sure the horse didn't want me on her back. We walked what felt like miles on their property to gather gooseberries, which largely were eaten before we got back to the house. We confided in each other a lot of the events that no one else could know about, and I always felt safe that whatever the story was, would go no further. Life of course takes us all in many directions, and for most of our adult years we saw each other not often enough. But on the times we were together, the bond was always there, we would laugh, cry, share stories and events. My heart is with Jeanie's family, I am grateful they have had the time they have had, with her, and I totally share the sadness of her loss. I think the best tribute to Jeanie is to keep her memory alive, and to be the best people we can be, which she always did. I will be planting a tree in the forest to her memory. Likely a cedar tree, as for some reason, I keep seeing her sitting under one, having a picnic with all her people around her.

A huge part of my high school memories are the weekend ‘gatherings’ Tiff and I arranged in Jean’s shop. We spent hours getting it ready and protecting Billy’s truck. I would get to sleep over and then we’d spend a few more hours in the morning cleaning it all up. Jean was so generous with us and would laugh at us for the stupid ideas we came up with.
I loved having quick chats with her to this day when our paths crossed at the grocery store.
I never knew about her additional careers until reading her obituary. She was even more amazing than I knew!
I know she meant the world to her family and I am thinking of you all.
