Obituary for James 'Jimmy' Schnell

On Thursday, December 8, 2022, in Medicine Hat, James Richard Schnell passed away with his family at his side. We celebrate his 80 Year journey as a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. James ‘Jimmy’ is survived by his five children, Deirdre Bajnoczi, Karen (David) Kolybaba, Sharlee (Dean) Schnell, Darren (Laura) Schnell, and Jodie (Bryan) Armstrong; four brothers, Nasie Jr. (June), Gordon (Jean), Harold (Vivian), Kenny; four sisters, Reta, Delores (Larry); twin, Joanne (Lyman), and Carolyn (Dennis); sister-in-law, Leah; 17 Grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. James was pre-deceased by his wife, Leona; parents, Nasie Sr., and Rose; brothers, George (Sharon), Glen; brother-in-law, Irvin and sister-in-law, Darlene. James was born on June 5, 1942 and raised in the Estevan area. He was a very generous soul always willing to help when needed, was widely known for his infectious giggle. He loved any family gatherings and especially loved to make sausage and watch sports. He adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. James lived in many different areas and held many work positions from driving truck, being a butcher, owning a Dairy Queen, and farming. He really loved when he moved back to Estevan and opened JR’s Lube & Shine and did car detailing for almost 15 years before moving to Medicine Hat and then opened Clearview Auto Detailing for 20 years before retiring. After retiring, he moved to be closer to his children and grandchildren, where he settled in Red Deer and battled with dementia. His wish was to move back to Medicine Hat so in late 2022, he moved to Medicine Hat where he spent his last days. He will be loved and sadly missed. James and his kindred spirit will be placed to rest with his wife, Leona, at the Souris Valley Memorial Cemetery in Estevan, SK in the Summer of 2023. We will announce the date and time closer to the summer and anyone is welcome to attend. Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of James, can make them to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. https://www.heartandstroke.ca.
