Obituary for Heather Lewis

We are sad to announce the passing of our mother, Heather Ann Lewis (nee Andrews), who passed away suddenly on January 7, 2024, at the age of 83 years.
Heather was born in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, on November 14, 1940, to Clinton and Dorothy Andrews. Left to cherish her memory are her loving children, Kevin (Terrilynn) Lewis, Lisa (Bernhard) Nickel, and Randy (Jody) Lewis; six grandchildren, Kara, Karmin, Kandice, Matthew, Amanda and Michael; eight great-grandchildren, Izaiah, Sophia, Ava, Avery, Bailee, Carson, Liam, and Aeden; sisters, Sharron (John) Curley and Jacie (Jim) Gunning; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her devoted husband and childhood sweetheart, Boyne Lewis; as well as her parents; and brothers, Peter and David.
Heather attended Carlton Place High School, where she met Boyne, and they were later married in June of 1962. After high school, Heather went on to college and earned her degree in teaching. Heather enjoyed her time as a teacher in Ontario. In 1975, the Lewis family relocated to Medicine Hat, Alberta. Heather explored other avenues of employment while in Alberta and became the Executive Director of Redi Enterprises where she remained until retirement in the mid- 1990’s.
Although the move was difficult for the family, Heather made the best of it. Life in Alberta was vastly different from her life in Ontario. This necessitated many trips back East to reconnect with her extended family. In her younger years, she enjoyed camping, hiking, and traveling; Scotland, England, Louisianna, Mexico and Florida were some of her highlight trips. Her hobbies included reading, gardening, knitting, and sewing. She also had a particularly soft spot for her dogs.
She cared deeply for family and friends and was always the first to offer advice. Heather was slow to form friendships, but when she did, they were strong and solid. These friendships were an extremely important part of her life. She looked forward to the fellowship that was maintained, in part, by her Wednesday afternoon meetings.
Through Heather, we were taught resilience, and perseverance.
Though her family grieves her loss deeply, they take comfort in knowing that Boyne and Heather are together again.
