Erna Stern of Surrey,BC passed away on Monday, April 26th, 2021 at the age of 94 years. Erna leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Rosemarie (Don) Scarrow, Lois (Myron) Schimpf, Sheryl (Ken) Thiessen; grandchildren, Troy, Lowell (April), Sarah (Craig), Elyse ( Shaun), Cole, Cameron (Ksenia), Devin (Bhernnyce); great grandchildren, Connor, Hayden, Nora, Eloise; brother, Edgar Hofer; sister-in-law, Audrey Hofer; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Erna was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Magdalena Hofer; husband, Albert Stern; brother, Jacob Hofer Jr.; sister, Hilda Schimpf; as well as numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Erna immigrated and settled in the Hilda/Burstall area in 1928. She attended Sandy Point School and Alexandra High School. Erna then moved to Vancouver, BC to attend Bible College. It was there that she met Albert, and they were married in September 1946. Later, they moved to Vernon, BC and then to Esk,SK and to Neudorf, SK before moving to Medicine Hat in 1953, where Albert contracted for the Brick and Tile company hauling clay. Erna enjoyed sewing and was very active in the children’s and women’s ministry. During these years, Erna taught Sunday School, VBS, after school Bible Clubs and at Bible camps. She also was a professor of Children’s ministries at HCC. A private Funeral Service will be held at Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 1Z5, on Monday, May 10th, 2021 at 2:00pm with Pastor Jamie McDonald officiating.
