Obituary for Eleanor Bertha Zieb (Meyer)

Eleanor Zieb, 85, of Medicine Hat passed away on January 27, 2023, surrounded by family at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital.

She is survived by her children, Burma (Andy); Troy; three grandchildren, Taya, Dillon, and Ryan; one great grandchild, Boston; six special grandchildren, Kyle, Jessica, Vanna, Antonio, Michael, and Jake; one sister, Marie Kelly; one brother, Ken Meyer; sister-in-law, Mary Meyer; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Eleanor was born in Maple Creek, Sask. She traveled to Medicine Hat, to work at Dominion Glass (Redcliff). Eleanor’s spirit then led her to Vancouver where she became a telephone operator with AGT (Telus). Soon after, Eleanor met her husband, Marvin, in Blaine, Washington and together they had four children, Kalvin, Burma, Troy and Blake, and the family settled in Medicine Hat. After many happy years, Marvin passed away. Eleanor worked hard to support her children she even started a successful restaurant business catering to city hall and the mayor. Several years later, Eleanor had met Ed Zieb, where together they farmed for many years in Burstall, Sask. All through Eleanor’s life she was active in numerous groups or activities. She was a member of the Moose, Bastrettes, and the Royal Purple. Eleanor also played softball, bowling, and always loved to dance.

Eleanor enjoyed many vacations with her family, traveling to Hawaii, and cruising.

Eleanor always made time for everyone; they were always welcome in Eleanor’s house. She loved to visit, cook, and entertain all her friends and family.

Eleanor’s health was failing for years, few people knew the extent to which she struggled. Her joy for life and indomitable spirit kept her pushing through the pain. Forever grateful for the unconditional love she gave to everyone.

Eleanor’s love for life will be greatly missed.
