Obituary for Dorreen Cornelsen

On Wednesday, November 10, 2021, Dorreen, at the age of 86 left this world to join her husband, Clarence, in heaven. To cherish her memory, Dorreen leaves behind her two children, Brenda and Grant; two grandchildren, Katelyn and Reid; one brother-in-law, Abe (Lynn) Voth; and many nieces, nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews. Dorreen was the middle child of five, born October 15, 1935 in Herbert, SK to Wilhelm and Hulda Firus. She attended school in Herbert and met the love of her life walking past the window of A.E. Peters store, where she would gaze through the windows and watch Clarence making signs for the store. Dorreen married Clarence Cornelsen in April of 1957. They had a lovely candlelight service in Herbert, Sask. Together they had two children, Brenda and Grant. Along with being a busy mother and wife, she also enjoyed working with her hands; gardening, crocheting, and creating with plastic canvas. In her later years she enjoyed colouring and solving word find puzzles. When her children were young, she enjoyed selling Avon where she earned many rewards. Her love of gardening stayed with her throughout her entire life as she tended carefully to all the plants in her room at the nursing home. Some of which had been grown from clippings of plants found in the dining room there. Dorreen volunteered for over 15 years at The Post, a local thrift store in Medicine Hat. There she made many friends and enjoyed her days visiting and working alongside them. The family would like to thank all the staff and volunteers at Good Samaritan Southridge Village for all the care and support they have given our mother over the last few years. Mom always said, “They take good care of me here.” A quiet celebration of life for family and close friends will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Roade SE, Medicine Hat, AB. on Friday, November 19, 2021 at 2:30 pm with Dallas Hjorth, officiating. Family and friends are welcome to participate via livestream by logging on to www.saamis.com and joining the live webcast on Dorreen’s memorial page at the above date and time. A virtual guest book is available on the livestream page for those participating remotely. Condolences may be sent to condolences@saamis.com subject heading Dorreen Cornelsen.
