Obituary for Diann Jean Simpson (Hammel)

On Thursday, August 22nd, 2019, Heaven gained the most beautiful, funniest, quirkiest, and coolest angel they could have ever hoped for. Diann Hammel-Simpson (aka Mommya) was, still is, and always will be the absolute BEST mom, daughter, sister and aunt in the entire universe. She was brought into the world by the lovely Maggie on September 10, 1958 at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. Little did she know that she would go on to graduate from Bow Valley College, in 1983, and that she would then pursue an awesome career in nursing, working in B.C., Canmore (she always said, “The mountains will bring you peace”), and ending in Medicine Hat in the same hospital where she was born. In addition to being a kick-ass nurse, her proudest accomplishment was her only child, daughter, and little “Jellybean”, Dallas. She bragged and gushed about her to everyone every chance she had. They were (and always will be) each other’s best friends, confidantes, and rocks. Diann fiercely loved her six brothers and sisters, mom, daughter, and her friends. Especially Sis #1 and 3. Diann passed away surrounded by family and friends knowing how truly and deeply loved she was. Her last words were, “I love you”, and that is more than anyone could ask for. We are all going to miss her so very much, but we find comfort in our knowledge that when it is our time, Diann will be waiting for us at a kitchen table, beer in hand, ready to skunk our butts in a game of Yahtzee. Please, if you are able, and in honour of Diann, hug your parents a little tighter today and tell them how much you love them. Sometimes the most important things in life can be gone in the blink of an eye. To all of those who knew and loved Diann, you are invited to come and share your stories, and celebrate her fabulous life at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Tuesday, August 27th, 2019 at 1:00 p. m. A pizza party will be held after, as requested by Diann herself. Diann was a joyous and magical ray of sunshine and we would like to reflect that during her service so please wear bright and happy colours instead of depressing ones to pay tribute to her spirit. Gifts of dog food or cat food may be donated to your local S.P.C.A. in honour of Diann’s love for Zelda, Nixie “Poo-Poo” and Ronnie. Condolences may be sent through www.saamis.com or to condolences@saamis.com subject heading Diann Simpson.
