Also left to cherish her memory her children, Blaine Kunz (Cindy Enslen) of Medicine Hat, Crystal Graham of Sylvan Lake and Jason Kunz (Sandy Bell) of Medicine Hat; three grandchildren, Slater Graham, Jasmine Graham and Sabian Kunz; two brothers, Ronald (Lynda) Elle of Calgary and Brian (Angela) Elle of Medicine Hat; two sisters, Leona Herter of Medicine Hat and Linda Horton of Calgary; brother-in-law, Jim (Marge) Kunz of Medicine Hat; Terry’s family, Royce Pettyjohn of Maple Creek, Cal Pettyjohn, Terina (Laurie) Sommerfeld and their children, Lukas and Alissa and Alex (Karla) Pettyjohn and their children, Ethyn and Koltyn, all of Medicine Hat; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bernice was predeceased by her first husband, Gerald Kunz; her parents, Albert and Mary Elle; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Albert and Hertha Kunz; and two brothers-in-law, Lloyd Herter and Jay Horton. Bernice was born on November 20th, 1943 in the Medicine Hat Hospital. She was raised on a farm 8 miles south of Richmound, Saskatchewan and received her education in rural school of Dunbrody. In 1962 Bernice married Gerald Kunz at St. Peter Lutheran Church; they were married for 41 years at the time of Gerald's passing in 2003. During most of their marriage they lived and worked on the farm in the RM of Richmound, Saskatchewan. In 1996 they bought a house in Medicine Hat and semi-retired. Bernice still helped on the family farm right up until 2018. She also kept busy with volunteering. Whether it be the local 4-H Club, curling board, teaching Sunday School, baking and serving at church functions, family reunions and the Good Samaritan Society, her vibrant soul kept her going. She loved to socialize and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was a proud L.W.M.L. member. On March 2nd, 2013 she married Terry Pettyjohn. Bernice loved to travel with family, friends and Terry. Some of her favourite places were Europe, Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Dominican Republic, Palm Springs and Florida. Bernice also enjoyed working in her gardens, canning, freezing her produce, baking, golfing, curling, fishing and collecting anything with roosters and chickens. She will be missed dearly by all her family and many friends. The family would like to thank all the staff at St. Joseph’s Home for taking such good care of Mom and making her short stay as comfortable as possible. Bernice will always be fondly remembered for her willing hands at South Ridge Village. Not only were her hands willing, she also showed everyone her deep faith, kindness and an ever present smile. She helped us in many ways with her ideas. organizational skills and energy. She was an important part of our fundraising projects which included the handi bus which assists in getting residents out for special events.
She will be greatly missed by many.
Condolences to all her loved one, you are in our prayers.
The Friends of South Ridge Village.
