Obituary for Benedict Michael Lanz
We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of Benedict (Ben/Benny) Michael Lanz, beloved husband of Penelope Lanz, at the age of 80 years in Medicine Hat, AB on March 8th, 2020.
Ben was born on April 3rd, 1939 in Schuler, AB. He was a long time employee of GOODYEAR until his retirement in 2001. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his children Pamela (Steven) Bohnet, Shane (Tasha) Lanz and Chad Lanz; his cherished grandchildren, Trinity Lanz, Julia and Hayden Bohnet; siblings, Frank, John, Ed, Tony Lanz, Mary Bitz, Francis Gaetz, Veronica Sehn and Kathy Peterson; many brother and sister in-laws; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ben was predeceased by his parents, Erasmus and Katherine Lanz; his brothers, Leo and Balzer; sister, Maggie; mother and father-in-law, Bun and Peggy Marriott; and brothers- in-law, Jerry Bitz Tim Sehn, Shawn Marriott, and Bruce Marriott; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Marriott. Ben had numerous jobs over the years including working at the Glass Factory in Redcliff, AB, S.F. Scott Manufacturing and Goodyear Canada. He also helped family and friends including Tony and Gary Botter of Botter & Son Electronics as well as Murray and Shelly Bitz at Bert’s Vacuum & Rentals. Ben was a jack of all trades and could be found tinkering around the house until ill health impeded his ability to do so. He worked hard at everything he did and was proud of all he accomplished. He loved to camp, take his family on road trips, go fishing and passing on his knowledge to his children. When his health started to decline, Ben enjoyed watching television – including wrestling, mystery shows and science fiction.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Wednesday, March 11th, 2020 from 6:00 to 6:55 p.m. Vigil Rites (Prayers) will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL on Wednesday, March 11th, at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ST. PATRICK’S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 282 – 2nd Avenue NE, on Thursday, March 12th, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Tomy Manjaly, Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Roman Catholic Section at SAAMIS PRAIRIE VIEW CEMETERY. Memorial gifts in Ben’s memory may be made to the The Lung Association Alberta/NWT Division, P.O.
