Military or Fraternal Services
Military honours are available to any veteran or servicing member of Canada’s armed forces. Services can include covering the casket with the Canadian Flag, Red Ensign or Union Jack, and a playing of the Last Post. Veterans’ organizations may provide pallbearers and a Guard of Honour if requested. Your funeral director will contact such organizations and make the arrangements.

Some cemeteries in Alberta have a Field of Honour. Veterans or members of the Canadian Armed Forces can be interred in this section with permission.

A war veteran may qualify for full or partial burial allowance under a Department of Veterans’ Affairs grant or payment from the Last Post Fund. This allowance is in addition to any burial allowance approved under regulation governing such application.
