Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel and Crematorium is conveniently located in the heart of Medicine Hat. The seven acres, park-like setting, afford more than adequate parking. The large comfortable chapel is on the main floor level and is wheelchair accessible. The mural, entitled "The Adventure of Life", at the front of the Chapel was designed and erected by local artist, Jim Marshall. Each raw brick was hand sculptured, numbered, fired and then mortared together on the chapel site. The mural depicts the four stages of life - baby, child, young adult and old age. The main building is a turn-of-the-century home built by William James Shannon in 1906. It provides a warm, home-like surroundings for family and friends.

Twenty years ago, a vision of building Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel was realized. With construction commencing in 1989 and the doors open for business in March of 1990, Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel and Crematorium is proud to be a part of the Medicine Hat and District Community.

Many changes have occurred over the years. For the convenience of the families of Medicine Hat and District, Shannon Monumental, Saamis Prairie View Cemetery and Crematorium, Flower Shop and Worden Consulting and Counselling have been added. The interior of the Shannon Home has also seen many changes in twenty years--upstairs offices have been remodeled, the selection room has had renovations, bathrooms have been updated, a refreshment area has been added to the main floor, and this past summer the chapel has seen major decorating changes; with new paint, wallpaper, moldings, window coverings. shutters, as well as adding a slate floor and fireplace in the foyer.
