Obituary for Charles Wilfred John “Charlie” Steiner

Charles Wilfred John “Charlie” Steiner
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Charles Wilfred John Steiner announce his peaceful passing on Sunday, July 8, 2018, at the age of 84 years. Charlie is survived by his beloved wife, Yvonne and three children, Mike (Vicki) Steiner, Susan (Larry) Granger and Jeff (Lindy) Steiner; grandchildren, Sarah (Tom) Pollard, Mark (Lindsay) Steiner, Leah Steiner, Thomas (Brittany) Granger, Mara Steiner and Emma Steiner; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Ernie (Erica) Steiner, Marie Malkoske, Donny (Karen) Steiner and Katherine (Orville) Hood; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Charlie was a kind, generous and loving man whose family and faith meant the world to him. He was born in Whitemouth, Manitoba in 1934 and grew up on the Steiner family farm. In 1956, he married the love of his life, Yvonne, and together they raised three children. Early in his career, he worked in corporate management with Shell Canada in various locations before moving to Medicine Hat to become the owner of the Shell bulk dealership in 1972. Here he put down permanent roots, growing his business, forging bonds with customers and serving with the Medicine Hat Rotary Club. Leisure hours were dedicated to family, friends, faith and fishing, with many happy hours spent along the South Saskatchewan River. The lakes of northern Saskatchewan were another favourite fishing destination. Always putting family first, he helped both his sons start their own businesses. In his later years he worked with Jeff, arriving at 7:00 a.m. sharp six days a week. Friday afternoon “board meetings” were a highlight. He considered himself lucky that his children and most of his grandchildren chose to settle here. The funeral be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 13, 2018 at UNITY LUTHERAN CHURCH (8 Palliser Place NE) with a luncheon to follow. If friends so desire, donations in Charlie’s memory can be made to Unity Lutheran Church.
