Duane was born October 7, 1951 at Ponteix, Saskatchewan, the only child of Melvin and Evelyn Olson. He grew up on a farm south of Ponteix. While growing up Duane helped on the farm. He enjoyed family gatherings with aunts, uncles and cousins where there was always an opportunity to play a few games of Norwegian Whist.
Duane loved farming but his other passions were playing golf, fishing and visiting with friends at the coffee shop. Duane was also an avid Saskatchewan Roughrider fan and attended some games in Regina but never missed a televised game.
Duane moved to Medicine Hat almost 20 years ago and developed many friendships there.
In late winter, Duane was diagnosed with glioblastoma and he spent several months in Medicine Hat Regional Hospital and the Foothills Hospital. He passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on July 1, 2018.
Duane was predeceased by his parents Melvin and Evelyn. He leaves to morn his passing, his uncle Ivan Condie and cousins Edith Schneider, Carol (Bob) Peters, Loren (Sharon) Condie as well as numerous cousins on both the Olson and Stoen side of the family, and many friends and acquaintances both in Ponteix and Medicine Hat. Duane will be sadly missed by so many that knew him.
Funeral arrangements were made in conjunction with Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel in Medicine Hat, Alberta and Lemieux Funeral Home of Ponteix, Sask. A graveside memorial will take place on July 20, 2018, 2:00 p.m., at the Ponteix Cemetery.
