Obituary for Evelyn Bernice Wenzel (Hodgson)

Evelyn Bernice Wenzel, our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully, with family at her side, on February 24, 2018 at Medicine Hat Hospital. She was 85.
Evelyn was born in Shellbrook, SK, February 29, 1932 to George D. and Julia Hodgson (Doust).
On Dec 27th, 1962 Evelyn married the love of her life, Melvin Wenzel, in Havre Montana. The two lived and raised their five children on the family farm, just north of Consul, Sk. Evelyn and Melvin remained on the farm until his passing, November 8, 2012. After Melvin’s passing, Evelyn moved into the South View Manor in Maple Creek, SK.
Evelyn leaves to cherish her memory five children, Gene (Lois) Hodgson, Karen Sorensen, Kathy (Joe) Newsome, Keith (Maggie) Wenzel and Kelly (Linda) Wenzel; 11 grandchildren, Tyler, Carey, Kim, Devon, Bryton, Christian, Dwight, Bryant, Cassandra, Shae-Lyn and Rori; seven great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Evelyn is survived by her sisters Edith (Jim) Ramsey and Beatrice (Al) Plautz and is predeceased by her parents George and Julia, husband Melvin, brother Stuart (Bud) Hodgson, son Keith and infant son Phillip.
Evelyn enjoyed socializing and making friends, whether it was in her travels with Melvin or in the Manor. She loved spending time in her garden, preparing food for community and family functions, sewing, knitting and quilting blankets along other items for her children and grandchildren and always had time for a puzzle or a game of cards. Ultimately, her number one joy in life was her time with family. Whether it was a wedding, school/sporting event or an afternoon tea, Evelyn enjoyed every moment she spent with her family.
There will be a private family funeral for Evelyn at a later date. The family would like to invite you to celebrate Evelyn’s life at a Come and Go Tea on April 14, 2018, from 2pm – 4pm, at the Elks Hall in Maple Creek, SK. Friends who wish to remember Evelyn are welcome to send a donation or gift to the Maple Creek Ambulance Service. The family would also like to thank Nursing Staff at the Maple Creek and Medicine Hat Hospital’s for all the care and support during Evelyn’s stay.
