Obituary for John William Hunter

It is with profound sadness that the Hunter family announces John’s passing at the age of 71 years. He valiantly battled cancer for nearly eight years, after being told he would probably live no more than two years. His stubborn nature stood him in good stead. John spent his entire adult life in service to Canada. First, having spent 32 years in the military, then 12 years as a special constable with the Medicine Hat Police Service. He was a kind and generous man who took pleasure in buying lunch for strangers. John was born in New Brunswick, the third of five children. He is survived by two brothers, Paul and David; and a sister, Mary. He is also survived by his wife of 50 years, Joanne; his sons, Jason (Danielle) and Jeremy (Ang); as well as his daughter, Jill Marie (BJ) Brooks. He has five beloved grandchildren, Annette, Claire and Evelyn Hunter, and Stephen and Patrick Brooks. Awaiting him in Heaven are his parents, one brother, and a grandson, Brandon. John loved WHL hockey and was a staunch Tigers fan. Please feel free to wear your Tigers gear as it would have made him smile. Special thanks go to the Cancer Centre, Palliative Care, Home Care and We Care. The staff at St. Joseph’s Home is amazing. There will be a special spot in Heaven for all of you.
