Obituary for Ken Alfred Hudson

Ken was raised on the family farm west of Bowden. He passed on after over a three-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He considered the cancer to give opportunities for deeper reflection through his relationship with his Lord Jesus Christ and family. Ken attended Grades 1 to 9 in the one-room Garrington School before living in Red Deer to attend Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School. Upon graduation Ken enrolled in the two-year Lab Tech course at S.A.I.T. While employed in Edmonton he gave deeper thought to his spiritual condition and in 1964 became a follower of Christ. Ken graduated from Mountain View Bible College with a BTh. Ken and Joan Engel were married in Lipton, SK on July 26th, 1969. After Oyen they pastored churches in Maycity and Galahad, Alberta; Macoun, Swift Current, and Melville, SK. Pastoral ministry concluded in Surrey, BC with the merger of two congregations forming Bear Creek Community Church. Over the first 12 years of their marriage, six children blessed their home: Corwin (Donita Snyder), Cameron (Charlotte), Norman (Yumi), Krista, Deandra, and Nathan. They survive Ken along with eight grandchildren; Madison and Sydney Snyder, Covie, Etanna, and Kaylyn, Ayana and Kihei, and Jonissa. There were many blessings through pastoral ministry. Each of the churches experienced some positive growth under their family’s ministry. The main highlights were those that came to faith in Christ and those encouraged in their faith. Without a church to go to following Surrey, the family moved back to Canmore, Alberta where Ken drove a tour bus and taxi. He especially enjoyed the beautiful scenery near Banff. In 1999, Ken became a Medicine Hat Transit Operator. Assisting people through Special Transit buses was both a satisfying joy and blessing. Ken retired from transit on January 30th, 2013, but before the year was over was back driving school bus for Cornerstone Christian School. In May of 2014, he was diagnosed with stage 3-4 pancreatic cancer. He was very blessed through the prayer support from Celebrate Recovery, others at Hillcrest Church, plus prayer from many other sources across Canada and even as far away as Tennessee. God chose to carry Ken through this struggle as part of his “walk through the valley”. God did not promise an easy passage into eternity, but He has promised to be with us and He has. God blessed Ken with limited pain and problems while giving a very supportive family and believing community. Ken is survived by Joan and family; sisters, Helen (Gordon “Chum” Clark) of Courtenay, BC, Shirley (Crouch) of Courtenay, BC, and Eunice (Robert Kullman) of Alex, AB; plus many relatives. Ken was predeceased by both his and Joan’s parents.
